CURRENT PROJECTS The Highway Department has a number of projects ongoing. Some are temporary or seasonal, and others will last months or years. If you have any questions, please contact this office. SEASONAL: Drainage: The catch basins were all cleaned in June and we make every effort to keep the storm drains open. With the onset of winter, however, it is possible that road debris or snow will cover the drains. Although we try to keep all the storm drains open, the occasional heavy snowstorm presents special problems due to snowbanks. If the problem persists or exists even during normal precipitation events, please call us so that we can clear it as soon as possible. Please see the Welcome Winter page for more specific information on snow, salt and plowing. ROAD PROJECTS: Route 140/Hartford Ave East Interchange - ongoing, and moving forward. Construction began in the Spring of 2008 and, after some delay, is back on track. The town is fortunate that this project is being funded and managed by the state through Mass. Highway. However, this means that any questions need to be addressed to Mass. Highway or the general contractor. We would be happy to forward questions or concerns, or provide an appropriate contact person. It is strongly encouraged that alternate routes be taken. Hartford Ave. East Road Repairs - This project is a number of years away. Tightened federal budgets may result in the project being delayed some time. Anticipating the engineering fees that can run $300,000.00, or more, the town is "saving" $20,000. per year out of our operating budget. This will not cover the fees completely, and there will come a time when the town will have to vote to spend the balance of what is due. Given the critical need for repairs on that road, the state funding for this multi-million dollar project is welcomed. Rep. John Fernandes has been very helpful in trying to assure the town's placement on the TIP list, and as of October, 2009, this project was under review by CMRPC. Blackstone Street - We intend to reclaim and pave the section of road from Main Street to Wesley Drive, and install another catch basin to handle more storm runoff. This will finish a project that improved drainage around that area. We continue to monitor the success of this project. Hartford Ave. West - Recent issues with delaminating crackseal forced us to make repairs to this road during the Fall. These repairs were completed in September, 2009. If you noticed the line paint fading too quickly, this problem has been brought to the attention of the responsible company, and the lines will be repainted.
