Welcome to Mendon Parks & Recreation The Parks Commission is dedicated to providing diverse, recreational opportunities for all citizens, without regard to age, ethnicity, social or monetary status. In addition, the Commission shall maintain, upgrade, and increase Mendon's public and park lands. These parcels may include (but not limited to) cemetaries, park lands, monuments and other public facilities, and recreational fields. The Parks Department is comprised of three commissioners: Chair, AJ Byrne, Jr., Sue Barnett and Joe Flaherty. The Administrative Clerk is Jennifer Welch. Upcoming Events POSTPONED: Mother & Son Social, Clough Elementary School. This year's theme is Disco Fever. Open to Mendon and Upton residents. $20 for two tickets and $8 (if you have more than 1 son). One fee for refreshments, pictures, games, contests, prizes. Prizes also awarded for the best theme costumes. Announcements Beach Beautification Committee: The Parks Department is looking for volunteers to join a newly formed committee to assist in fund raising projects for site improvements to the Mendon Town Beach. All interested volunteers should contact the Mendon Parks Department (508) 473-0600 or email mendonparksdept@comcast.net. NEW: Junior Counselor Program The Mendon Parks Department has made significant changes to the Junior Counselor (JC) Program. Interested participants will receive training in core fundamental skills to become a counselor in the Kids 'N Us Recreation Program. Some examples of training recieved is CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety. The program has been split into three week sessions. The fee is $120 per session. All participants will be expected to complete the three week program prior to being considered for a paid counselor position (in future years)*. To be eligible for our Junior Counselor Program, applicants must have finished 8th grade prior to the opening day of the recreation program. Sessions will run Monday-Friday from 9 am. - 1 pm. The Mendon Town Beach The Mendon Town Beach will open on Memorial Day Weekend this year and will be open each weekend until opening full time (7 days per week) in June 2008. The Snack Shack The Snack Shack will re-open when the beach opens on a full time basis (June 2008). If you are interested in volunteering your time or have an item that you'd like to donate to the Parks Department, please contact us. In exchange for your time the Parks Department may provide free passes to the Town Beach, free Swim Lessons, free day passes to the Kids 'N Us Recreation Program, etc. The value of the free passes will be determined by the amount of time and/or item donated.
